World Health Day 2021

April 7 of each year marks the celebration of World Health Day. It is celebrated globally to create awareness and highlight a priority area of concern. The world is still an unequal one. The places where we live, work, and play may make it harder for some to reach their full health potential, while others thrive. Health inequities are not only unjust and unfair, but they also threaten the advances made to date and have the potential to widen rather than narrow equity gaps.

Khuwaja Welfare Association (KWA Pakistan) works predominantly in remote villages located within the Thatta and Tharparkar districts in Sindh, Pakistan. Part of our focus in rural communities is to promote access to healthcare. The Khuwaja Medical Center inaugurated in April 2020 in Junghshai, Thatta District, Sindh, Pakistan, seeks to provide low-cost access to those in need and carries forward our mission to promote equity for all. The cost to support each patient along with their medicine is thirty-three US cents or fifty Pakistani rupees. A waiver is also provided for any patients who are unable to obtain medical attention due to a financial need. To date, we have provided care for over four thousand patients from rural communities at our Medical Center.

Our main goal is to ensure that we educate, elevate, and provide essential resources for the disadvantaged to uplift them out of their current state. Our ongoing partnerships with Aga Khan Health Services engage health specialists through onsite medical camps hosted by teams of physicians who see patients with specific needs. In addition, we have partnered with HEALTHYABI who have hosted informative home-health sessions through a resourceful institution of volunteers that have been able to provide training on snakebite management and other home medical emergencies to combat causes of disease and death in rural areas.
