Renewable Energy

Developing infrastructure to empower local populations is an integral component of community development.

The availability of energy in rural areas is crucial to the amelioration of overall living conditions of those living in extreme poverty.

SOLAR ENERGY

Due to the resource-intensive nature of developing electrical grids, providing adequate electricity to remote areas is not without challenges. However, solar energy has proven to be a cost-effective solution to provide energy in harder-to-reach areas.

One of the goals of Khuwaja Welfare Association (KWA) is to lead community development projects in rural areas of Sindh, Pakistan. KWA is currently working to provide low-cost housing powered by solar energy to underprivileged families in the Thatta District. Additionally, solar-powered agricultural projects are also underway in the Tharparkar District.

QUALITY OF LIFE

These projects have improved various families’ living conditions and facilitated access to clean water. The provision of electricity augmented the ability of children and women to spend more time on their education and other activities at home.  Locals have also taken advantage of the solar-powered agricultural projects to grow to produce. This not only provides food for their families but also provides avenues to improve their economic outlook through the sale of the leftover harvest.

Through these projects, KWA’s vision is to continually improve the local communities’ education, nutrition, economic potential, and, overall, their quality of life.
